This book takes us  to Northern England in 1953.  Pauline Riddell has grand ambitions for her future at the armament factory.  Because of this when her closest workmate reveals a salacious affair with a married man, Pauline refuses to risk her career by listening to the scandal.  But after the police come to her door with the horrible news her best friend had been murdered; Pauline is shaken to her very core.

Pauline’s insistent poking around the case due to her need for justice, leaves the police thinking of her as a suspect.   And now she finds that she must clear her name by unraveling a web of deadly clues entangling her in a sinister plot.

Will Pauline be able to stop a killer, before they strike again?

I am reviewing a copy of Faith: Embracing God’s Presence through BooksGoSocial and Netgalley:

As a Mother and her two children walk in the snow they encounter puppies and Ice Skaters while walking in the snow, in which the Mother reminds her children that even they speak of God’s love.

When they stop at a local bakery, an adventure of discovery is found, where the Mother helps her young children recognize God’s presence in acts of kindness, great and small, in the beautiful sights and sounds of nature and the people around them.

This would be the perfect book to read to young children and those young at heart who want to know more about God’s love.  Faith is a beautifully written and illustrated book.  One that I am happy to recommend!

I give Faith five out of five stars!

When 1756 begins Issac Lukens leaves the Pennsylvania wilderness after two years with the Lenape people.  He has failed to find the families of his birth parents, a French trader and a Lenape woman.  Even worse the tribe he has lived with has rejected his efforts at peacemaking, and now they are ravaging frontier settlements in retaliation.  After Issac arrives in the Quaker community where he was reared, questions taunt him:  He wants to know who he is a white man, or Lenape?  Where does he belong?

Elisabeth Alden was Issac’s nearest and dearest childhood friend, she is left to to tend her young siblings alone upon her father’s death.  Issac had promised to care for her and the children, she battles resentment toward him for having left, while an unspeakable tragedy and her discordant courtship with a prominent Philadelphian weigh on her as well.

Elisabeth finds that she must marry or she will loose custody or her young siblings and her options threaten the life with her and the children that Isaac has come to love.  While faced with Elisabeth’s reluctance to Marry, and the prospect of finding his family at last, as well as being faced with the opportunity to help in the peace process between Pennsylvania and the Indian tribes.  But Issac must first find out where and to whom he belongs.

I give A Cord of Three Strands five out of five stars!

True to their promises Vicarious Vacations elevates Paige’s online presence, but now that she’s amassed a respectable following, what will she pay to regain her privacy?

What is Vicarious Vacations and what are they really up to?

I found that this novel tackled social media, and the need some have for fame, in a unique well.

I give Vicarious Vacations four out of five stars!

After Eighteen year old Tommy Baxter declares  that he wants to be a police officer to his family, his Mother Reagan won’t hear of it.  She’s still mourning the death of her own father on September 11 and she’s determined to keep her son safe from danger.  Tommy’s Father is proud of of Tommy’s decision.  He believes his son would make a kind and compassionate cop.

In the meantime Tommy has fallen in love for the first time, his relationship with Annalee Miller almost feels to good to be true. Tommy starts to seriously thinking about the day when he can ask her to marry him.  When Annalee begins feeling unwell and tests reveal the unthinkable, they pray for a miracle.

While Annalee is fighting for her life, Tommy becomes more determined to learn more about the circumstances surrounding his birth and the grandfather he never knew.   In the process secrets come to light that rock Tommy’s world and he becomes determined to spend his future fighting crime and bringing peace to the streets.  Or perhaps this is just another way to fight a battle he cannot win, Annalee’s battle!

Will Annalee get her healing, and Annalee and Tommy get their happily ever after?

I am reviewing a copy of The Promised Land through Bethany House Publishers and Netgalley:

In a desperate attempt to mend her marriage and herself, Abbie follows her son, Bobby, to walk the famed Camino pilgrimage.  During their journey they encounter Rasa, an Iranian woman working in secret helping other refugees, and Caroline, a journalist who is studying pilgrims on the Camino while searching for answers from her broken past.

Everyone on this pilgrimage has their own reason for for the pilgrimage, but together they learn that the Camino strips you bare and calls you into deep soul-searching that can threaten all your best laid plans.  

If you are looking for a heartwarming, at times heartbreaking, powerful read.  

I give The Promised Land five out of five stars!
