Book Review: Where Are the Children Now?

Where Are the Children Now?

by Mary Higgins Clark; Alafair Burke

Pub Date 18 Apr 2023

 Simon & Schuster

General Fiction (Adult)  |  Mystery & Thrillers

Simon & Schuster and Netgalley provided me with a copy of Where Are the Children Now for review:

The "Queen of Suspense" continues to leave her mark with the highly anticipated sequel to Where Are the Children?, which features Nancy Harmon's children as adults facing peril once again.

Among Mary Higgins Clark's fifty-six bestsellers, Where Are the Children was among the most successful, Where Are the Children was one of Mary Higgins Clark's fifty-six bestsellers, forever transforming the genre of suspense fiction. There was a story in which a young California mother named Nancy Harmon was convicted of murdering hNancy's two children from a second marriage, Mike and Melissa, went missing several years later. Nancy once again became the prime suspect—but this time she was able to confront the secrets buried in her past and rescue her children.

Despite becoming the prime suspect, Nancy was able to confront the secrets buried in her past and save her children.

More than four decades after readers first met Nancy and her children, comes the sequel to the landmark book that set the stage for future generations of psychological suspense novels. Melissa, a lawyer turned successful podcaster, recently married a man whose first wife passed away tragically, leaving him and their young daughter, Riley, behind. Melissa's new stepdaughter goes missing while she and her brother, Mike, assist Nancy in moving from Cape Cod to the equally idyllic Hamptons. In light of the trauma they still experience from their own abduction, Melissa and Mike race to locate Riley in order to prevent her from being subjected to the trauma they are still struggling with.

In the same manner as the original, Where Are the Children Now? This book keeps readers guessing until the very last page and keeps them on the edge of their seats.

I give Where Are the Children Now five out of five stars!

Book Review: Blind Trust

Blind Trust

by Natalie Walters

Pub Date 11 Apr 2023

 Revell

 Christian  |  Mystery & Thrillers  |  Romance

The following is the review of Blind Trust that I am conducting through Revell and Netgalley:

While Lyla Fox knows she has a reputation at the SNAP Agency for being impulsive, when she receives a threatening letter from a man she helped put in prison, she cannot resist the urge to find out why he is pursuing her. Unfortunately, she will need the help of the one person who is most likely to question her reckless choices.

The explosives and weapons expert Nicolás Garcia agrees to help Lyla in order to keep her safe, but her recklessness continues to raise concerns, especially when her investigation into a conspiracy places her at risk. Dealing with bombs can be extremely dangerous. It is just as treacherous for him to work with Lyla, both for his mission and for his heart.

This nail-biting story of a deadly government conspiracy, an unlikely couple, and an ending that will leave you breathless concludes Natalie Walters' SNAP Agency series with a bang.

I give Blind Trust five out of five stars!

Explore the past through a series of historical stories filled with romance and adventure.

Andrea Andrews, an investigative historical journalist, has become tired of waiting tables to make ends meet. In the event that she were able to produce the next breakout story, she would be able to gain a promotion with Smithsonian Magazine as their writer-at-large. But nothing out of the ordinary happens until she discovers counterfeit post-Civil War currency hidden in the wall of the apartment she occupies in the historic district of lower Manhattan.

Although his family owns a successful real estate business, Beau Davidson-Quincy's passion has always been politics. As he prepares to build his campaign for governor of New York, his clean image and single status make him a target in the media. There is nothing he has to hide until a cute waitress unravels a mystery that threatens to destroy the reputation of his family.

A wounded Civil War veteran lost everything two centuries earlier, including his house, his wife, and his social standing. In his darkest hour, he is offered a position with the newly formed Secret Service to combat the spread of counterfeit U.S. currency. He is the envy of his peers with his new home in Gramercy Park, but all is not as it seems. Keeping secrets is a responsibility that Franklin will carry with him to the grave.

Book Review: Mosaic

Mosaic

Life in pieces

by Chris Aslan

Pub Date 21 May 2021

 Lion Hudson Ltd,  Lion Fiction

 Christian  |  General Fiction (Adult)

Through Lion Hudson Ltd and Netgalley, I am reviewing a copy of Mosaic:

She struggles to imagine how life can continue without her best friend Sholum and her brother Phanuel, who is paralyzed. Phanuel and his friends are blamed by Tabita for the accident that claimed Sholum's life, and he is even wished dead by Tabita.

Tabita's experience in the Holy City changes her perspective, particularly after she encounters the Teacher, an incredible healer. As well as having the potential to restore her brother, he also suggests a way for Tabita to heal her bitter feelings.

What is the likelihood of Phanuel walking again? Is Tabita ever going to be able to forgive? Can the Teacher escape the clutches of the religious teachers who wish to silence him?

In this powerful reimagining of the Bible story, a group of friends lowers a paralysed man through a roof, readers will feel as if they were right there in the action.

I give Mosaic five out of five stars!
